Patron

Popwalk Patrons are those that understand the power of art to activate a community, to enrich a place, or to inform the public. Popwalk Patrons know how to leverage the power of art to enrich their environment.

Popwalk is a format in which site-specific digital art can be displayed anywhere. Much of the time artists initiate where they want the artworks to go, but individuals, municipalities, or other groups may want to use the Popwalk app to sponsor a site-specific project for a certain location or locations. Examples of this may be:

  • A town or city that would like to sponsor a series of site-specific artworks that highlight the history and culture of the city.
  • A local business, such as an airport or mall, which would like to enrich their public arts collection by adding digital works to their collection.
  • An individual that would like to sponsor a digital work of art for a particular location.

Why Use Popwalk?

Popwalk gives museums, municipalities, and companies the ability to attract audiences to places that matter. Using Popwalk also allows multiple organizations and communities to cross-pollinate audiences.

What is a sponsored work?

Popwalk is a service for displaying site-specific digital works of art. This service is for artists that would like to share their work with the public. Organizations and individuals may want to sponsor works to be displayed on Popwalk as well. This can be as simple as coaxing a creative friend to make something for a specific location. But those works that are supported by a group or individual other than the artists, and make reference to having done so, fall under the category of ‘Sponsored work”. These works must still adhere to all of the submission guidelines, terms of use, and limits of the legal agreement, and must be of juried into Popwalk. Sponsored works also incur a monthly fee for display.

What does it cost to use Popwalk?

The fee varies according to how many videos are displayed in the environment and how many viewers are looking at those videos. This allows you to start small and grow your audience. In this way, you can tailor your use of Popwalk for your needs. Contact us for a price chart for sponsored projects. poppwalkapp@gmail.com

Where do you put up the works?

As you think about the possibilities of sponsoring a Popwalk project, please consider the following:

  • What is the scope? (How many works, how spread out are the works, how many locations?)
  • What is the budget?
  • Are there specific themes, ideas, locations that you want addressed?
  • Do you have a theme for the tour? (like “our town” or “historical interaction of a site”)
  • Are there particular styles or kinds of art that you want for the tour—music, animation, etc.?

Answering these questions will give you and us a better sense of the project you are envisioning. As you are getting an idea of your vision for the project, please contact us and we will help create a project profile and put together some budget options. Popwalk is not interested in using our service to create direct advertising for a business or product.

How do you produce the videos for Popwalk?

There are two ways to produce videos for Popwalk: through commissioning works from artists and by setting up a competitive call for art. We can help you with either of these options, but generally speaking, commissioning artists is more expensive, but can get you something closer to what you are envisioning. A competitive call for art will usually get you more works, but the content of the works will be more varied. Please contact us if you have questions about this.

How do you put the works up on the app?

All works displayed on Popwalk need to be submitted and juried into the project to ensure quality and appropriateness of content. Go to the Submit Artworks Page for submission instructions.

How do you get people to see the works?

Popwalk has its own, built in audience! Of course, if you are putting up works in an area with few works, this audience will be small and need to grow organically as more artworks get put up in the region. We can help with developing new audiences and presenting this project to your existing audience.
